The Most Dangerous Places Near Water – and How to Make Them Safer When we...
The Rescue Hook Station is a complete lifesaving installation designed for piers, quays and beaches where highly visible rescue equipment is needed but a fixed rescue ladder is not required.
Built for exposed waterfront environments, the station helps create a clear and reliable rescue point that remains visible over time.
The Rescue Hook Station is a structured safety system that brings key lifesaving equipment together in one clearly defined location. It is intended for waterfront environments where a person in distress must be reached quickly and where the rescue point needs to be easy to identify from a distance.
The system combines a rescue hook, a lifebuoy and a reflective location sign on a 3 metre post with signal flag. This makes the station easy to spot along piers, quays, beaches and marina walkways, while also giving users direct access to the equipment from either side of the post.
Compared with separate components mounted in different places, a combined station improves organisation, visibility and response speed. It gives site owners a more consistent rescue point, supports structured safety planning and simplifies inspection, maintenance and replacement over the product lifecycle.
For facilities that work with public safety planning, risk reduction and documented waterfront protection, the station supports practical alignment with MSB guidance and the recommendations referenced in SRVFS 2007:5.

The station should be placed where it remains clearly visible along the waterfront and can be reached without obstacles during an emergency. It should normally be positioned across the line of sight along the pier, quay or beach so the signal flag and location sign can be identified from a distance. The rescue hook should face one side and the lifebuoy the other to support quick access from different directions. For quay and concrete installations, the station can be mounted in a quay bracket. For beaches or softer ground conditions, it should be installed in a buried concrete foundation to ensure long-term stability.
The 3 metre post and signal flag make the rescue point visible from far away, which is especially important along long piers, open quays and beaches with interrupted sightlines.
The rescue hook is mounted on one side and the lifebuoy on the other. This layout improves access and helps users reach the correct equipment without hesitation.

The station is designed for long-term use in harsh waterfront environments where wind, moisture, salt and seasonal weather place high demands on materials and fittings.
By collecting essential rescue equipment in one defined position, the station improves orientation for visitors, staff, contractors and emergency responders.
