The Most Dangerous Places Near Water – and How to Make Them Safer When we...
The Fixed Ladder – Quay is a permanently mounted rescue ladder for quays, harbours, and piers where people need a reliable way to climb out of the water.
Built for long service life in exposed marine environments, the ladder improves accessibility, visibility, and safety where fast self-rescue or assisted rescue is critical.
In harbours, quays, marinas, pontoons, and other waterfront environments, a person who falls into the water may not be able to get back up without dedicated rescue access. Vertical walls, slippery edges, and changing water levels make self-rescue difficult unless a clearly visible ladder is available.
The Fixed Ladder – Quay is designed to create a permanent and dependable escape route from the water. It mounts to stone quays, timber quays, and both fixed and floating pontoons. Spacers hold the ladder away from the wall to improve climbing clearance, while the upper section extends above edge level to provide a secure handhold.
Its hot-dip galvanized steel construction is suited to demanding marine environments where corrosion resistance and low maintenance are important. Serrated steps improve grip in wet and slippery conditions, helping users climb with better confidence and control.
Reflective side plates and a clearly marked rescue sign improve visibility in darkness and support structured waterfront safety planning. The product is relevant for projects where access, visibility, and practical rescue preparedness need to be built into the quay environment.

In general quay planning, ladders are typically placed at intervals of 25 to 50 metres, depending on the site layout and risk profile. The ladder should extend to at least 1 metre below the water surface at low water level so it remains accessible when needed. Spacers should be fitted correctly to maintain clearance from the wall and improve climbing function.
The top rung extends above the edge and functions as a handle.

Reflectors indicate the way up from the water. A sign marked “RESCUE LADDER” with reflective details is mounted by the handle to show where the ladder is located.
