FAQ
Below you’ll find answers to the most common questions about installing Shore Safety rescue equipment on beaches, shorelines, and natural waterfronts. These FAQs follow the requirements of SRVFS 2007:5 and are designed to support municipalities, coastal operators, and public-safety planners (for Sweden).
Have any questions or want to order feel free to contact us.
What lifesaving equipment is recommended for shoreline environments?
Typical equipment for beaches and natural shores includes:
- Lifebuoy stations with throw line
- Rescue hooks with long reach
- Rescue rafts where depth or currents are significant
- Reflective signage for visibility
- Rescue ladders only where a fixed structure (e.g., pier or jetty) exists
This provides quick access to rescue tools even in unbuilt or natural areas.
How often should safety equipment be installed along a shoreline?
According to SRVFS 2007:5:
- General lifesaving equipment (lifebuoys, hooks, etc.) must be placed at intervals of no more than 200 meters.
- On beaches and areas with many visitors, the recommended distance is approx. 100 meters to ensure faster access.
These distances apply specifically to natural shorelines, bathing beaches, and waterfront promenades.
Note: The 25–50 meter rule applies only to fixed quay ladders, not to beaches.
What makes Shore Safety equipment suitable for long-term use on beaches and shorelines?
Shore Safety equipment is engineered for harsh coastal environments where saltwater, sand, UV exposure, and temperature fluctuations quickly degrade standard materials. Posts and brackets are made from galvanized steel or marine-grade aluminum, ensuring corrosion resistance even in high-salinity conditions. Reflectors use prismatic, long-life technology with a guaranteed reflective effect of at least ten years. Polyethylene components are UV-stabilized to prevent cracking or fading, and all metal fittings are designed to withstand constant exposure without rusting. This high build quality ensures that each installation remains reliable, visible, and functional for many years with minimal maintenance.
Does Shore Safety equipment meet official requirements?
Yes. All equipment complies with:
- MSB (Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency)
- SRVFS 2007:5 for placement and visibility
- European standards for durability and rescue equipment
